BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Nov 4, CMC – The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) has bolstered its coaching unit with the addition of Andrew Emtage, a seasoned tactician whose career spans over two decades and multiple continents.

Emtage, a former Barbados Under-19 representative, returns home fully committed to nurturing the next generation of talent.

His appointment marks a significant addition to the BCA’s technical staff, bringing a unique blend of local roots and international insight.

Reflecting on his journey, Emtage traced his path from a promising youth player at Carlton to the national youth setup in 2001, before a move to Wanderers in 2002.

Unfortunately, his playing career was curtailed by injury around the age of 30, prompting a seamless transition into the coaching arena.

“I’ve been coaching for over 20 years, regionally, and also had a few stints in Latin America and England,” Emtage said. “My journey transitioned from player to coaching. I got my first stint through the BCA, coaching in the Barbados Cricket League.”

His resume is as diverse as it is extensive. After a four-year tenure with the Barbados Cricket League, Emtage took his expertise abroad, serving in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, and England. Now, he returns to the local scene with a fully rounded perspective on the game.

Emtage credits his longevity in the sport to a strict personal code, emphasising that his philosophy is built on a foundation of character.

“I will always carry hard work, dedication, discipline, and humility. That will continue with me through my journey, playing and also coaching,” he stated.

For Emtage, discipline is the separator between potential and greatness. He breaks the concept down into the fundamentals of daily life, eating habits and manners, as well as the mental fortitude required to compete at the highest level.

“Between a good player and a great player, I think good players are talented and great players are exceptional,” Emtage explained.

The BCA welcomes Emtage back to the fold, anticipating that his mix of regional experience and international knowledge will prove instrumental in developing the island’s cricketing prospects.
