Privacy Policy

The Caribbean Media Corporation (“CMC,” “CANANews,” “we,” “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use cananews.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is provided in keeping with the Barbados Data Protection Act, 2019.

Information we collect

  • Account information. When you create a free account or subscribe, we collect your name, email address, and login credentials.
  • Subscription and payment information. Paid subscriptions are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never stored on our servers. We retain a record of your subscription status and transaction history.
  • Newsletter. If you sign up for the CANANews newsletter, we collect your email address to deliver it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
  • Usage data. We collect anonymous, aggregate analytics (pages viewed, referring site, approximate region, device type) to understand how the site is used and improve it. Our analytics are collected on our own servers and are not sold to third parties.
  • Cookies. We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure site traffic. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect account features.

How we use your information

We use the information above to provide and maintain your account and subscription, deliver the news and newsletters you request, process payments, measure and improve the site, protect the site against fraud and abuse, and communicate with you about your account or enquiries. We do not sell your personal information.

Sharing your information

We share information only with the service providers who help us operate the site — for example our payment processor (Stripe), our email delivery provider, and our hosting provider — and only to the extent needed to provide those services. We may also disclose information where required by law.

Advertising displayed on CANANews may be served by third-party ad partners. Where those partners use cookies to measure ad performance, their use of that data is governed by their own privacy policies.

Data retention

We keep account and subscription records for as long as your account is active and as required to meet our legal and accounting obligations. You may request deletion of your account at any time (see below).

Your rights

Under the Barbados Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request that it be corrected or deleted, and object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us through our Contact page.

Children

CANANews is a general-audience news service and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date.
