PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC) Wednesday said it had acquired a participating interest in the export gas pipeline that would serve several Caribbean states including Barbados and St Lucia.
ECGPC is developing the $US550 million project to deliver natural gas from Trinidad and Tobago to Barbados, St Lucia, Dominica, Martinique and Guadeloupe, primarily for electric power generation. Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Gas Pipeline Company Ltd (ECGPC) Trevor Boopsingh did not disclose the extent of NGC’s involvement in the project, but he said he was looking forward to benefitting from its experiences, knowledge and relationships that would contribute to the successful implementation of “this regionally beneficial energy infrastructure project”.
“This acquisition is an example of an opportunity that makes commercial and strategic sense for NGC as we continue to broaden our involvement in the regional natural gas transportation sector,” said NGC president Frank Look Kin.
The other shareholders in ECGPC are the Trinidad-based financial conglomerate Guardian Holdings Limited, Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust Corporation and Intra-Caribbean Gas Pipeline Company Ltd.
