GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Oct 23, CMC – The USA produced a gusty effort to upset Scotland by six wickets and record their first win in the IMC Over-40s World Cup here on Thursday.

Mahendra Krishnappa’s superb spell of 4-15 helped to set up the win as Scotland was bundled out for a paltry 120 in 38.2 overs after choosing to bat first at the Enmore Community Centre Cricket Ground.

Only opener Kyle Coetzer, who made 44 off 71 balls, put up any resistance, with none of Scotland’s other batters scoring 20.

Nadeem William snared 2-16 to support Krishnappa.

Faced with a straightforward run chase, USA lost openers Prasanna Ramaswamy and Zeshan Muhammad cheaply – both falling to Daniel Styer – to slump to 27 for two early on.

But captain Ankur Kassal, who made 26 and Petson Matthews, who scored 31, added 53 runs for the third wicket to put the USA in the driver’s seat and carry them within sight of victory.

Following their dismissals, Sudhindra Shetty scored an unbeaten 21 to formalise the result.

Styer ended with 2-28.

In the day’s other result, the Rest of the Caribbean thrashed the Rest of the World by 209 runs to also register their first victory of the tournament.

Dary Balgobin smashed 111 from just 92 balls, while Andrew Lyght Jr blasted 61 off 29 balls, to see the Rest of the Caribbean post a competitive 359 for nine in 45 overs.

Vick Mahabeer then grabbed 4-17, while Romaine Roye took 3-34, as the Rest of the World were routed for 147 in 26.5 overs.
