Government denies providing subsidy to needy families and young people

1 min read

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, Sept 16, CMC -The Suriname government has described as a fake, an appeal circulating on social media calling for a government subsidy of SRD50,000 (One SRD=US$0.02 cents) for families and young people.

The Office of the President has rejected the information contained in the online post while urging the public to be vigilant and refrain from clicking on the link.

“Announcements regarding social support are currently being made through official government channels,” it said.

The appeal, which has been in circulation for  several days, said that families can apply for the SRD 50,000 subsidy from the National Fund for Family and Youth Support.

But the Office of the President reminds the population that there is no National Fund for Family and Youth Support as well as no government relief fund.

The online appeal features a photo of President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, and claims that payments for the month of September have already begun.

The online notice contains a link where interested parties can submit their application for free, but the Office if the President reiterates that “the advice is therefore not to click on this link”.
