ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Oct 27, CMC – The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging supporters not to pay heed to calls informing them that they should not vote on November 5, but instead ensure that the party is victorious in all 15 seats at stake in the Parliament.

Prime Minister and NDC leader, Dickon Mitchell, addressing a party rally on Monday night, said voters in St. Andrew South East and St. Mark constituencies had been receiving intimidating calls informing them that they couldn’t vote in the elections that had been called almost a year ahead f the constitutional deadline.

“Don’t let nobody call you on the phone and tell you you can’t vote and you’re not registered,” Mitchell told supporters, without indicating where or who were making such calls.

He told the NDC that they should not be discouraged from exercising their right to vote and that people whose names appeared on the voters’ list should turn out on polling day.

“Do not let anybody intimidate you or scare you,” he said, reminding the supporters that the party wants to win all 15 seats.

The main opposition New National Party (NNP) under the then leadership of former prime minister Dr. Keith Mitchell had accomplished that feat on three occasions, but the NDC leader said he remains confident that the party will win the November poll.

“The only way the 15th happening on the fifth in St. David is to make sure that on the fifth we go out and we take all of the 14 seats that I have just identified,” he said in reference to his own St. David seat.

“It ain’t over until you deliver the judgment on 5th of November 2026,” he told supporters.

The NNP, which is contesting the general  election for the first time with a woman at the helm, said it was prepared to regain office following the 9-6 defeat it suffered in the June 23, 2022 general  election.

“When they come asking for another four years, I want you to think about their record,”Emmalin Pierre told NNP supporters, adding “when they say boots on the ground, ask them, are they on your necks?

“When they ask you, are you ready for more, ask them, more of what?  More unanswered questions about taxpayers’ money? More allegations of corruption and favouritism? More controversy? More promises without delivery?

“Four years is enough time to show your priorities, and the people have every right to demand better,”  Pierre told NNP  supporters on Monday night, promising that when the NNP is returned to office, there will be more opportunities for Grenadians.

“More scholarships are coming for the young people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. More skills training opportunities throughout Grenada …we are coming to serve the young people,” she added.

Mitchell said that Monday’s rally is  the NDC’s final major event  before election day and urged supporters to focus on getting voters to the polls. He said that a  prayer and worship event will be held on Saturday October 31.

The other major party in the election is the Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) headed by former foreign affairs minister Peter David. It is contesting nine seats.

All three political leaders are schedule to  participate in the October 28 National Leaders’ Debate being organised jointly by the Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG), Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN), The Bubb Report and the Grenada Conference of Churches.

The two-hour programme will include 90 minutes of structured debate under the theme: The Issues. The Choices. Grenada’s Future”.
