SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, Oct 29, CMC – A police pistol reportedly stolen during a robbery at Pigeon Point last week was found on the body of a man fatally shot by police during an anti-crime operation in Tobago, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Hasani Bobb, also known as “Hman” and “Sanni”, of Yorke Trace, Patience Hill.

According to a statement from the TTPS, the shooting occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday along Orange Hill Road, Patience Hill, during an operation involving officers from the Tobago Division Gang Intelligence Unit and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Team/Special Investigations Unit.

It said intelligence led the officers to the area, where they encountered a white Nissan Tiida without registration plates and with one occupant inside.

Police said that as officers approached the vehicle, the occupant allegedly pointed an object resembling a firearm in their direction, prompting them to discharge their service-issued weapons.

The man was struck by gunfire and transported to the Scarborough General Hospital, where he subsequently died.

The TTPS said officers approached the injured man to render assistance and observed what appeared to be a chrome revolver with a wooden handle in his hand. The object was removed, and a search revealed a Sig Sauer pistol bearing TTPS markings, fitted with a magazine and concealed in the waistband of his trousers.

Police said the Sig Sauer pistol had reportedly been taken from a police officer during a robbery at Pigeon Point on October 22.

No police officers were injured during the incident.

The TTPS said an investigator had been appointed to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and that further updates would be provided as information becomes available.
