New air carrier to start flights between Dominica and St Lucia:

CASTRIES, St Lucia, CMC – A new regional carrier, Carib Aviation, will on Wednesday commence commercial air services between St. Lucia and Dominica.

The Dominica-based service, which will operate under the name Dominica Air Taxi, will use twin otter aircraft for travel between the Canefield Airport in Roseau and the George Charles Airport here. The 18-seater aircraft will also travel to the VC Bird airport in Antigua.

Carib Aviation’s start of service follows a decision earlier this year by regional carrier LIAT to terminate flights to Canefield and concentrate on the other airport at Menville Hall.

CEO of Carib Aviation Bruce Koffman said that the new service will provide greater choice and accessibility for tourists and business people visiting Dominica. He said the airline will be financially independent and therefore will not depend on government to throw it a lifeline for survival.

St. Lucia’s Tourism Minister Phillip J Pierre has welcomed news of the new service saying it will boost the tourism industries of the three territories into which it will operate. Caribbean Aviation, operating two aircraft initially, plans to make close to 45 weekly flights into Canefield airport.
