PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, Aug 17, CMC -Haitian politician and lawyer, André Michel, says there is need to restore “ a minimum level of security” in Haiti before elections are held in the French-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country.
Michel, who in the past had announced his intention of contesting the post of president, said in a statement ahead of the arrival of an Organization of American States (OAS) delegation that also includes the CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett “that without a minimum level of security, armed gangs will win the elections’.
OAS Secretary General, Albert R. Ramdin, who is leading the high-level delegation of regional and international partners to Haiti that arrived here on Sunday for the next three days, said that the purpose in coming to Haiti together is not simply to demonstrate solidarity, but to continue strengthening coordination and help deliver results, in security, elections, institutional strengthening, humanitarian needs and long-term development.
