Cable & Wireless Caribbean has made its first financial contribution to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands following the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Ike.
CEO Richard Dodd presented a cheque for 75,000US to Premier Michael Messick and later visited the offices of the Red Cross to deliver another contribution of 25,000US.
These contributions come out of the 250,000US fund established by C&W Caribbean to aid in the mitigation efforts in countries affected by Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike.
The C&W top executive later visited Grand Turk, the worst hit island in the chain, to meet with his colleagues who suffered damage to their homes. He heard first hand of their experiences and was touched by their expressions of gratitude for the immediate support they received from the company.
Following the passage of Hurricane Ike CW mobilise an emergency response team to deliver critical supplies to members of staff. In addition, a technical team arrived on Grand Turk and set about ensuring that repair work to downed lines would be carried out expeditiously.
The majority of the C&W network stayed up throughout the event and many customers expressed satisfaction that the service was again available in a crisis.
Efforts are underway to ensure that full landline service is restored as the utility company on Grand Turk works to restore full power.
