HANOVER, Jamaica, Nov 2, CMC — The stage is set for a thrilling showdown at the Tryall Golf Course as the 58th staging of the Jamaica Open Golf Championship welcomes a field headlined by history-making Caymanian professional Justin Hastings.

Hastings, the premier golfer representing the Cayman Islands, headlines a field of over 70 competitors for the 54-hole event, scheduled to tee off from November 7-10.

His participation marks a significant moment for regional golf, as the young pro brings a resume boasting unprecedented achievements for his nation.

The Caymanian sensation turned professional in July 2025 following a stellar collegiate career at San Diego State University, but not before etching his name into the history books.

Earlier this year, Hastings became the first Caymanian golfer to ever qualify for the prestigious U.S. Open, where he stunned the field by capturing the Low Amateur title.

His meteoric rise continued with a victory at the 2025 Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC), a win that earned him exemptions into the sport’s most hallowed events, including the Masters Tournament and the Open Championship.

Since transitioning to the paid ranks, Hastings has been active on the PGA Tour Americas and the Korn Ferry Tour, sharpening his skills against top-tier talent.

He now brings that professional polish to Jamaica, where he is expected to be a major contender.

However, the path to the US$20,000 winner’s prize will not be easy. Hastings faces stiff competition from defending champion Benjamin Martin of Trinidad and Tobago.

Martin is in fine form, returning to the scene of his 2024 triumph where he carded a three-round total of 7-under-par (209) to lift the trophy at the Tryall Club.

The local charge will be led by former Jamaican amateur champion Justin Burrowes, Wesley Brown and Seebert Walker Jnr, who will look to defend home soil against the regional heavyweights.

The field is further bolstered by a strong contingent of US and Canadian tour players, ensuring a highly competitive atmosphere in Hanover.
