KINGSTON, Jamaica, Nov 3, CMC – Police say two bothers died after a fire engulfed their home on Monday night. They have been identified as five year-old Jausha Bell and his 10 year-old brother, Dion Bell.
The police said they were alerted to the blaze in Portmore, St Catherine, a parish in the south east of the island and when the Fire Brigade extinguished the blaze, the bodies of the two boys were discovered among the rubble.
Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative, Alando Terrelonge, has expressed condolences saying that the incident has plunged the Gregory Park community into mourning.
“No family should ever have to endure the agonising pain of losing children under such catastrophic and unfortunate circumstances. The loss of these two young souls, one of whom is believed to have been autistic, has cast a dark shadow of sorrow over the entire community and our nation,” he said.
The legislator said that the government’s thoughts and prayers are with the boys’ mother, who remains hospitalised as she battles to recover, as well as their father and surviving sibling, who are grappling with the devastating loss.
Terrelonge said reports indicate that the fire spread at a “terrifying speed”, overwhelming the desperate efforts of residents who attempted to extinguish the blaze.
