HAMILTON, Bermuda, Oct 14, CMC -Premier David Burt is leading a delegation to the DC Fintech Week in the United States providing Bermuda with an opportunity to engage directly with regulators and firms operating in the sector
Burt, who is also the Minister of Finance will attend the event that is being organised by The Fintech Foundation and held at venues in Washington and Arlington, Virginia. The Bermuda delegation include representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
“Bermuda has always believed that responsible innovation is best achieved through partnership between government, regulators and industry,” Burt said, adding that as DC Fintech Week marks its 9th year, it provides an opportunity to share Bermuda’s experience as a digital asset jurisdiction and to learn from developments taking place in other markets.
“Since 2018, Bermuda has regulated digital asset businesses under a comprehensive statutory regime, and we look forward to continuing those conversations in Washington,” Burt added.
According to a government statement issued here, Bermuda’s participation follows a year of continued growth in the island’s digital finance sector.
In January this year, the government announced its ambition to become the world’s first fully onchain national economy with support from Circle and Coinbase. In May, Bermuda’s Cabinet approved policy proposals that would allow the Government to accept and invest in digital assets, with legislation now being prepared for the House of Assembly.
According to the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s 2025 Annual Report, 49 digital asset business providers were operating in Bermuda at the end of 2025, compared with 36 a year earlier.
The statement said that Bermuda has regulated digital asset businesses under the Digital Asset Business Act since 2018 and that the visit to the United States will include meetings with US regulators and industry representatives as policymakers consider the next phase of digital asset oversight.
During the visit, the Premier and delegation are scheduled to participate in several meetings with regulators and industry representatives, including Michael Selig, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC); and Paul Atkins, Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
“Discussions will focus on developments in U.S. regulation, opportunities for continued regulatory engagement, the application of digital assets within Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance market, and initiatives that support broader adoption on the island.”
