LONDON, Oct 20, CMC – The London-based Commonwealth Secretariat Tuesday unveiled the Commonwealth Investment Platform showcasing over 60 high-impact projects submitted by 20 Commonwealth countries seeking financing.
The platform was unveiled ahead of the November 1-4 biennial Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda and the projects represent an estimated US$30 billion in potential investment opportunities across energy, transport, agriculture, manufacturing and green economy sectors.
Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Botchwey, said the Commonwealth of 2.7 billion people gives the grouping extraordinary economic scale.
“Our job is to make a compelling case for investors. The prize is stronger economies, more secure countries, and more prosperous lives. This CHOGM will give us a real sense of purpose and direction – and it will mark a turning point in how and what we deliver for our people. ”
Botchwey, who assumed office in April last year, said what is particularly exciting is the impact this investment platform could have.
“Collectively, the projects represent opportunities to mobilise significant investment, create jobs, strengthen resilience and support industrialisation. This strong portfolio of investment-ready projects shows that Commonwealth countries are not short of ideas or opportunity, and that they can deliver meaningful and lasting economic transformation for their people,” she added.
The Commonwealth Secretariat said that Botchwey has made addressing the challenges faced by some Commonwealth countries, in particular Small States, Least Developed Countries and other vulnerable economies, a key pillar of her leadership.
It said a priority is mobilising investments in critical sectors of their economies to support sustainable growth and resilience. CHOGM 2026 will for the first time bring together government and business leaders to unlock investment.
According to the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Trade Review, the Commonwealth constitutes a major economic force, with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of US$15.9 trillion in 2025, projected to rise to US$16.9 trillion in 2026 and US$20 trillion by 2029.
It said that the new platform brings together projects selected for their investment readiness, sustainable development impact and commercial potential, showcasing diverse opportunities across these sectors and markets throughout the Commonwealth.
“Together, these opportunities highlight the scale of the Commonwealth’s growth ambitions and the transformative potential of investment to help deliver national development priorities, while connecting investors with dynamic markets, new partnerships and long-term value creation. ”
Meanwhile, approximately 20 businesses from Antigua and Barbuda have been selected to present their investment proposals to wealthy international financiers and business leaders during theCHOGM after organisers received more than 50 applications for the opportunity.
The selected entrepreneurs will participate in the Investment Power Pitch, a closed-door event designed to connect local businesses with potential investors during the meeting.
The initiative will provide selected businesses with access to financiers, banking representatives and senior corporate executives from across the Commonwealth, with investment proposals ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.
The proposals cover a wide range of industries, including technology, real estate, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and the creative industries.
Several applicants submitted plans for digital applications and technology-based services, while others proposed investments in food production, processing and cold-chain storage.
Some of the projects also have ambitions to expand into neighbouring Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) markets.
The selection process was conducted with assistance from the Antigua and Barbuda Investment Authority, which helped review and assess the applications.
