BELMOPAN, Belize, Sept 15, CMC – Police say they have detained the husband of a woman who reportedly watched her family home go up in flames moments after her husband entered the building.
Head of the National Crime Investigation Branch, ACP Hilberto Romero, said law enforcement officers had responded to the weekend blaze Paraiso Village, situated in the Corozal District, the northernmost district of Belize in what is likely a case of domestic violence.
Police say the couple had reportedly been involved in previous domestic violence incidents.
“Investigation revealed that a male person, Gregorio Espiritu went into the house and set the building on fire. This report was made by his wife Brenda Espiritu, who reported she was in the area when she saw him enter the house and thereafter the house was engulfed in flames,” Romero said.
He told reporters that the husband is in custody as the investigation continues.
