Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar got to hear of the good work of the Barbados-based Caribbean Export Development Agency, during the just concluded Trade and Investment Convention (TIC) in Port of Spain.
After officially opening the trade show component of the TIC at the Hyatt Regency hotel last week, the Prime Minister visited several booths, including that of Caribbean Export.
Jamaican-born Pamela Coke-Hamilton, the Executive Director of Caribbean Export and an international trade lawyer, welcomed the Trinidadian leader to the trade show and outlined the efforts of the agency in working with various regional companies in assisting them to become more competitive and export ready.
Around a dozen companies, from 10 regional countries, were able to showcase their products at TIC 2011 with the assistance of Caribbean Export. Among others, they included wine producers from
Suriname, Specialty Teas from Trinidad, beverages from Belize, pepper-sauce, confectionery and seasonings from Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and 100 percent sea-island cotton garments from Barbados.
The products were showcased under the Caribbean Export banner and Coke-Hamilton said a major objective was to further expose some of the region’s world-class products to international buyers.
The trade show and convention were all part of the inaugural Caribbean Investment Week in Port-of-Spain, which also included an investment forum attended by several regional and international business leaders.
