PARAMARIBO, Suriname, May 12, CMC  – Police say two students are assisting their investigations after a 17-year-old student was admitted to hospital on Monday after consuming cookies laced with drugs.

They said that the two students are suspected of having sold or distributed so-called “edibles” — cookies processed with drugs — among students and that the victim had filed a report with the police last Thursday together with her mother.

According to her statement, she went out for a meal with three fellow students after her oral examinations and that a few days earlier, the students had watched a video on TikTok in which a couple consumed cookies containing drugs.
Police said that one of the suspects had asked the group if they wanted to try such cookies with the other student selling the cookies. The students later went to an eating establishment, where the cookies were consumed.

According to the investigation, the student, identified as AF consumed the majority of the cookies and shortly thereafter, became dizzy and unwell.

The police public relations said the victim was taken to the Emergency Room at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo, where it was revealed that marijuana was present in her blood. The teenager was subsequently admitted for observation.

The police said that a search of one of  the suspects led to the discovery of  three cookies and that following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, both suspects have been remanded in custody pending the investigation.
