KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, May 5, CMC – Police are investigating a case in which the acting head of the state-owned Agency for Public Information (API), Nadia Slater and one of her female relatives have been taken for medical attention after an attack at her home on Tuesday.

Police believe that Slater, who was recently sent on leave, days after saying she made “a genuine error with malicious intent” when she referred to Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves as prime minister, may have been attacked by a relative, who is  assisting their investigations.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning, and police said when they responded they found Slater, who is in her mid-40s with injuries to her face and mouth.

Slater’s aunt, who is said to be in her 70s, also had injuries.

Media reports said that Slater told police that she was awoken by a noise outside her bedroom. When she checked, she came face-to-face with a man whom she identified as one of her cousins ,  who attacked and beat her.

The man then went into the aunt’s room and beat her, also resulting in injuries before fleeing the  scene.

Police are said to have found a ladder to the back of Slater’s house and theorised that the assailant used it to enter the house through a bathroom window.
