KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica is to host a two-day investment forum early next month.

The March 1-2 Jamaica Investment Forum in Montego Bay is being held in partnership with the Washington-based Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Compete Caribbean Programme.

The organisers said that the Forum will present an array of investment opportunities with special focus on emerging projects in Jamaica’s burgeoning ICT/BPO, manufacturing and tourism sectors.

It will bring together international investors with public and private sector representatives and will be addressed by Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller.

Among the participants will be IDB Vice-President for the Private Sector, Steven J. Puig and IDB Representative in Jamaica, Ancile Brewster.

The forum agenda will address Jamaica’s pro-business investment climate and will feature a mix of top speakers, sector experts and existing investors in Jamaica; in addition to in-depth business sessions designed to explore the details of investment-ready projects.

Last week, Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister Anthony Hylton told an investment forum here that Jamaica is teeming with investment opportunities in such areas as business process outsourcing (BPO), export-oriented manufacturing, tourism and global shipping and logistics.

Hylton said that Jamaica’s strength as an investment location is grounded in a number of factors, including its large English-speaking population, competitive wages, accessibility to a diverse labour pool, and its ideal location for trading with the rest of the Western Hemisphere including the United States (US), as well as the fact that the country “is endowed with an abundance of natural resources and a well-developed infrastructure.”

He said that Jamaica remains an attractive destination for BPO and has emerged as the leading contact centre location in the English-speaking Caribbean with more than 10,000 full time agents in the offshore sector.
