PORT AU PRINCE, Feb 7, CMC – The wreckage of the Embraer 110 Bandeirante aircraft used by a Florida-based non-profit Christian missionary aviation organization has been found after the plane lost contact while flying between the cities of Jérémie and Les Cayes on Thursday in bad weather.
“We do not believe there were any survivors… Our hearts are broken. We deeply mourn the families of the pilots who are now suffering an unimaginable loss,” said Allen Speer, the president and chief executive officer in a video message posted on Facebook and addressed to the “Agape” family. He did not say how many people were on the aircraft
The authorities said that the Agape Flights that support humanitarian and missionary activities in the Caribbean, reported losing contact with the Brazilian twin-turboprop light transport, with registration N361AF in the mountainous area of Haiti while flying between the two cities.
They said that a search party comprising the Joint Rescue and Coordination Center/Search and Rescue (JRCC/SAR), an entity of the National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC), immediately mobilised its partners and several regional rescue agencies to initiate the initial response.
On Friday, the wreckage of the aircraft was found by a rescue team conducting a helicopter search in the mountains of the Grand’Anse region.
