GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – One of the suspects in this year’s assassination of former government Minister Satyadeow ‘Sash’ Sawh was killed during an armed confrontation with the police.

A police statement said Leydon Elvis George Deane, also known as Sheldon Solomon, “was fatally shot during an armed confrontation with ranks of the Joint Services while on an operation in the backlands of Victoria,” on the volatile east coast corridor last Sunday.

The police statement said Deane was deported from Cayenne last December after spending 12 months of a two years prison sentence for possession of firearms.

According to the statement, ranks of the Joint Services found an unlicensed 9mm Taurus pistol on Deane’s body, and ballistic checks revealed that three 7.62 spent shells found at Victoria were fired from one of the weapons used during the attack “at Earl’s Court, LBI where the late Minister Satyadeow Sawh and relatives were shot and killed,” in April.

Police said the weapon was also involved in killings at the Two Brothers Gas Station at Mc Doom, on the east bank, south of here where three security guards were shot and killed.

According to the release further tests also “confirmed that the pistol was used during the fatal shooting of 12-year-old student Kevin Brown at his Back Street, Mc Doom home,” last March.

Brown’s mother Shondel Brown, was also seriously injured after a group of armed men invaded their home and discharged several shots at members of the family.
