Guyana introduces appointment system for passport services

1 min read

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Aug. 27, CMC – Guyana will introduce an appointment-based system for passport services from October 1, with passport offices no longer accepting walk-in applications.

The new system is aimed at making the passport application process more convenient for citizens while reducing overcrowding at immigration offices.

Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, said applicants will be required to complete their passport applications through an online application and appointment system before visiting a passport office.

“We will no longer accept persons at any of the passport offices walking in with the application,” Telford said in a video posted on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation.

Under the new arrangement, applicants will be able to complete their passport application forms online from home or another location and select the passport office, date and time most convenient for the in-person stage of the process.

“That in itself allows you, the applicant, in the application process to choose which one of the passport offices you want to do your application at, at a date and a time that is convenient to you,” Telford said.

Appointments can be made through the online portal, Guyana Passport Appointment System.

The appointment system will be available at all seven passport offices nationwide, including those at Camp Street, Leonora, Anna Regina and Berbice.

Passport processing normally takes three working days, while an expedited service allows applicants to receive their passports within 24 hours. Depending on the circumstances, passports can also be processed in as little as 30 minutes.
