GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Mar 2, CMC – Guyana says it will use an international trade show and investment forum in Canada next week to promote the country’s mining sector.
“Through the auspices of the Canadian Government and the Canadian High Commissioner the possibilities of mining will be highlighted, Guyana will be represented at the annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International convention, Trade Show and Investors Exchange,” said Natural Resources and the Environment Minister Robert Persaud.
“This is a very important convention for Guyana as it gives the unique opportunity of establishing ties with the 27 Canadian companies in the business of exploration and prospecting … gold, gas, manganese and oil will be present,” said Persaud, who will lead a three-member delegation to the four-day convention next week.
He said the Canadians have allocated a day to Guyana to promote mining sector opportunities allowing officials to interact with participants and discuss challenges.
“We will not only be looking to establish ties with the companies. A day for Guyana has been planned where we will present opportunities and interact with the 30,000 delegates and the 2700 international companies.
“The idea is to develop an objective for first class mining and sectors covering the current areas of activity whilst exploring new areas of activities as government is currently looking at diversifying its portfolio,” Persaud said, noting that Canada has shown an interest in not only the mining sector but in the development of new areas.
“Because of this high interest there will be meetings with both investors and potential investors…there will be a meeting with officials from the Canadian Government as it pertains to natural resources management to explore and deepen the discussions that already exist in terms of support for natural resources management and environmental management in our country,” Persaud said.
The PDAC trade show provides mineral explorers, developers and financiers with the latest information on new products, exploration concepts, prospective areas that are available for exploration and results of recent work by property surveys, geological surveys and mineral commodity evaluation based on current conditions.
