DUNDEE, Scotland, July 29, CMC – Trinidad & Tobago’s Russell Latapy was brilliant, scoring one goal and setting up another as Falkirk raised the curtain on their Scottish Premiership campaign with an impressive 3-1 win over Dundee United on Saturday.
Latapy, who was awe-inspiring in his only game at the recent FIFA World Cup against Paraguay, scored in the 23rd minute to pull Falkirk level after they had gone behind in the 17th minute through a Barry Robson strike.
He then set up Liam Craig in the 59th for the winner to give Falkirk a great start to the new season.
Five days ahead of his 38th birthday, Latapy showed no ill-effects from his long World Cup campaign with the Soca Warriors.
He stamped his authority on the game from early and was instrumental in setting up Pedro Moutinho whose strike was ruled offside in the 10th minute.
Against the run of play, Robson sent Dundee ahead when he knocked in a rebound after his initial shot was blocked.
Latapy promptly answered for the visitors with a superb curling free-kick from 25 yards out that easily beat the Dundee custodian.
After the break, Latapy again weaved his magic and it resulted in the winner for Falkirk when his splendid pass was expertly converted by Craig.
