PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Dec 21, CMC – Local officials plan to meet with the coaching staff of the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force soon to discover why the side is under-performing in the WICB Regional 4-Day Tournament.
The Red Force sunk to their third defeat of the season last Monday, when the Guyana Jaguars crushed them by 10 wickets at the Guyana National Stadium.
They are now last at the halfway stage in the six-team tournament on 35.6 points, heading into the long break in the season for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, plus the Regional Super50 Tournament.
“The coach got everything that he asked for in terms of preparation for this series and, at this moment, we at the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board are very, very disappointed,” said TTCB President Azim Bassarath.
“The executive will meet with the management team. . .We will seek to meet with them just after the holidays to see what can be done to improve the performance.”
Bassarath said a possible reason for the weak performances could be the relative inexperience of the players in the squad.
“We have to understand that the players are very young and with all the stars missing, they are new to the scene and would have needed that mental preparation going into a regional battle,” he said.
“Also we have Yannick Ottley leading the team for the first time and we are not sure if the burden of leadership has affected his batting.
“I am sure the coach and manager can have answers to these questions when we meet with them and they can then make the required recommendations.”
Red Force are the defending champions in the Super50 and will be hoping for better results in a boost of confidence for the remainder of the Professional Cricket League season.
