The
Barbados-based Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) and the Caribbean Media
Corporation (CMC) join with other regional media organizations in expressing
sincere condolences to the government and people of Haiti following the
destruction caused by the earthquake on Tuesday.

CBU
president Vic Fernandes said the devastation “reminds us all that as a
Caribbean family, we must look out for each other”.

CMC,
the region’s premier region’s leading multimedia organization, said it is
sending a team into Haiti on Saturday, to keep the Caribbean up to date with the
latest developments on the ground in Haiti.
On Thursday CMC started a 2 hour special report on Haiti on CaribVision (2 pm –
4 pm ECT) and on some terrestrial stations across the region. It said that the
programme will continue on Friday and Monday and possibly extended thereafter.

CBU’s
secretary general, Patrick Cozier said that “from within the depths of this
great tragedy, there may arise a unique opportunity for the Caribbean to
demonstrate its capacity for caring and responding to one of our own, in the
best spirit of regional unity”.

The
CBU and the CMC urge all Caribbean people to extend their “arms of support and
comfort to our Haitian friends, as generously as we can”.
