TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands, Oct. 24, CMC – The government of this British Overseas territory,  is seeking to attract more cruise ships to its shores following discussions with major cruise operators during  a regional conference recently held  in Puerto Rico .

A BVI delegation attended the 32nd Annual Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Cruise Conference and Trade Show earlier this month, where officials explored opportunities to increase cruise calls and strengthen the territory’s position in the regional tourism industry.

Representatives held talks with major cruise companies, including Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Princess Cruises and Carnival Corporation, focusing on itinerary planning, port development and visitor experiences.

Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer participated in the conference, delivering opening remarks at a workshop titled Homeporting: The Gateway to the Caribbean.

Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture Luce Hodge-Smith also provided an update on the territory during ministerial discussions. BVI Ports Authority Chairperson Dion Stoutt said the engagement was critical to securing future opportunities.

“Our participation at FCCA is about more than maintaining industry relationships. It is about ensuring that the British Virgin Islands remains part of the conversations that influence cruise deployment, port development and destination growth,” Stoutt stated.

According to the Ports Authority, the BVI secured follow-up commitments aimed at attracting additional cruise calls and providing training opportunities for local vendors and tour operators. Officials also discussed improving port infrastructure and shore excursions to make the territory more attractive to cruise operators.

The Authority said it will continue working with government and private-sector stakeholders to ensure cruise tourism generates greater economic benefits for local businesses and communities.
