TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands, Mar. 12 , CMC – A 31-year-old charter boat captain from Argentina has been charged with assault as police in the British Virgin Islands investigate allegations that he sexually assaulted a crew member from another vessel.
According to BVI News, the man was arrested after a report was made by another boat captain. The incident reportedly began after both captains and their crews met at a bar and later went to the suspect’s vessel to continue socialising.
While aboard the boat, a crew member alleged that they had been sexually assaulted by the suspect.
The crew member’s captain confronted the man, who denied the accusation. The situation escalated into a physical altercation between the two captains, and others on board had to separate them. The captain who confronted the suspect reportedly suffered injuries.
Police were later called and the Argentine captain was arrested and charged with assault in connection with the fight. Authorities say investigations into the sexual assault allegation are ongoing.
It is not yet known if the suspect has been granted bail or when he will appear in court.
