BOSTON, Oct 3, CMC – The United States Coast Guard is searching off the coast of Nantucket for a medical transfer aircraft with six people aboard that lost contact while travelling from Bermuda to Boston early Saturday.
The Federal Aviation Administration notified the Coast Guard that it had lost contact with the Canadian-registered Gulfstream G100 at about 2 a.m., according to the Coast Guard.
The aircraft had departed L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda for Boston and was carrying four crew members and two passengers, according to the airport’s operator, Skyport.
The Coast Guard said it had deployed air and surface crews to search for the aircraft off Nantucket, Massachusetts. The search included aircraft and vessels from Coast Guard stations in the area.
The aircraft is operated by Ontario-based Latitude Air Ambulance, which provides medical evacuation and patient transport services.
A spokesman for Latitude confirmed that the aircraft was missing and said the company had contacted search-and-rescue and law enforcement authorities.
The aircraft took off from Bermuda late Friday night and was expected to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport early Saturday. Massport, which operates Logan Airport, confirmed that the aircraft did not arrive as scheduled.
The circumstances surrounding the loss of contact remain unclear, and the search was continuing Saturday.
