BELMOPAN, Belize, Feb 3, CMC – Police have arrested and charged one of their colleagues with the murder of Shakim Ferguson, one of two men killed on January 25 this year that also left a third person seriously injured.
“As a consequence of the ongoing investigation into the shooting death of Shakim Ferguson, which occurred on Sunday, January 25th, 2026 in Ladyville Village, police have formerly arrested and charged twenty-four-year-old Kenroy Allen, a Belize police constable for the crime of murder,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith.
Police said that while no clear motive has been established for the killings there is a suggestion that drugs may be the motive and it may be connected to the other incidents that occurred in the Ladyville Village.
Allen appeared before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers where the single charge of murder was read out to him. He was not asked to plead and was remanded at the Belize Central Prison until his next court appointment on May 15.
Police said that among the evidence gathered is that Allen’s vehicle was spotted at the scene of the murder, as well as a ballistic report which links his personal firearm to the murder. Investigators also retrieved clothing from Allen’s home they believe he was wearing at the time of the shooting.
Meanwhile, police say they have charged a 30-year-old Guatemalan cattle truck driver, Juan Carlos Estrada Prado, following the death of Special Constable, Marcos Acal, who died last Friday after he was knocked off his motorcycle on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highwa.
Police said that Prado drove off following the accident and that Constable Acal’s body was found along the roadway and taken to the Southern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
They said the truck driver and two passengers were eventually intercepted miles away. While Estrada Prado has been charged, questions remain about why the passengers have not.
“Certainly we have tasked the person in responsible for the traffic section of the department to see what, if any, charges can be brought against the others because as you would know, they were suspected to have been on board the vehicle at that time of the accident, and they in fact had duty to report such accident,” said ASP Smith.
