BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Oct 9, CMC -`Barbados’ Commissioner of Police, Sonia Boyce, has been awarded the Order of the Republic or her “exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to public service in maintaining peace and public safety, fostering trust within communities”.

President Jeffrey Bostic conferred the award on Boyce also for “ leading the police service to prevent and respond to crimes, ensuring safe environments for all citizens and contributing to the social fabric of the country by upholding law and order”.

At a brief ceremony at State House attended by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley as well  as senior government ministers, the Commissioner dedicated the award to the men and women of The Barbados Police Service.

“Sunday will mark my 100th day in office, and so far, things have been a bit challenging, but I have been able to overcome them…. I have been able to look at the strategies that were deployed previously and realised that they are working, with a little tweak….

“When I took office, I promised all citizens to maintain and sustain the public trust, and with what I am seeing, and the feedback I am getting, I am satisfied that I have started to achieve my goal. And it is my intention to continue to look after the citizens of Barbados, and I pledge that I will do that with integrity and with pride,” she added.
