PHOENIX, Arizona, Dec 21, CMC – Andrew Ramgeet stepped up his bid for the jockeys’ title at Turf Paradise on Tuesday.
The Jamaica-born reinsman logged a pair of wins on the eight-race card at the racetrack located in the capital of this south-western American state to hold onto second in the table on 35 wins – nine behind leader Scott A. Stevens.
Ramgeet proved that the 6-5 favourite Rallydownthealley was the best by three quarters-of-a-length in the US $9,700 first race over 1,600 metres on the dirt track.
He put the six-year-old, chestnut mare to track the front-runner through the early fractions early before moving her up to challenge for the lead in the lane and running on to finish in a time one minute, 48.38 seconds.
Ramgeet later guided the 11-5 second favourite Yet Another Nate to a comfortable 5 ½-length victory in the US $7,000 sixth race which went 1,100m, also on the dirt.
He kept the three-year-old, dark bay gelding practically out front for most of the race, narrowly falling behind at the three-eighths mark before moving back into the lead entering the lane before urging the animal to the line for a time of 1 min, 04.88 secs.
