Kenwyne Jones (File Photo) - Could be heading to Liverpool for 12 million pounds

LONDON, England, May CMC – Media reports here say that Liverpool are on the threshold of making a 12 million pound sterling bid for Sunderland’s Trinidadian striker Kenwyne Jones.

Liverpool had been rumoured in the past to be interested in the 23-year old frontman and with the Anfield giants looking to build their side after a disappointing season, reports say manager Rafa Benitez is ready to make Sunderland an offer.

Jones has been a revelation for the Wearsiders since his six-million pound move from Southampton last season. He scored six goals but it was his physical presence and pace that troubled opposing defenders and got the plaudits of manager Roy Keane.

Reports say Liverpool are likely to attempt a swap deal which will see England striker Peter Crouch heading to Sunderland.

Keane, the former Manchester United star, has indicated that Jones is not for sale and put him off limits at the close of the season.

“Sometimes a club might think they might get £20 million or £30 million and invest it and it’s a good deal for everyone but it certainly wouldn’t be a good deal for us to let Kenwyne … go,” Keane said earlier this year. “It would set us back a hell of a lot.”

He has also valued the player at £40 million, describing him as one of the finest strikers in the Premiership.

Jones is expected to line up for T&T in Sunday’s international friendly against England in Port of Spain.
