Terry Mayers

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, May 14, CMC – Sports broadcaster Terry Mayers died Wednesday after being critically ill in hospital for almost two weeks.


He was 40.


Mayers, a regular sports anchor on CMC’s nightly Prime Time Caribbean, suffered a severe asthma attack on the morning of Friday May 2.


He was rushed in an unconscious state to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he remained -- on life support -- until his death at approximately 1:10 pm Wednesday.


“This is a huge loss,” CMC Director of Sports Lance Whittaker said Wednesday afternoon.


“Terry was a gifted media man, highly skilled overall. His affinity for gadgets and gizmos made him especially comfortable in this new age of advanced technology in the media. He was earmarked for an integral role in our coverage of the Beijing Olympics,” Whittaker added. 


Mayers previously worked at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) before playing a major media role for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup with World Cup Barbados as Media & Communications Manager.


At the time of his death, Mayers was also Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA).


He leaves behind his wife Janelle and six-week-old son TJ.
